Bergkerk Deventer
I was asked to create an installation especially for this church. Upon my first visit I got intrigued by this small space opening up to the church’s ship and main hall. There was something odd about it that made it an interesting location.
The space has a corner, so using a mirror was an unmissable opportunity because mirrors are often very difficult to work with. I build two entrances in the shape of a gothic passage, thus referring to the location. Just low enough that one needs to bow to enter.
All wires go into the mirror. The point of the installation is that it looks like you walk through a corridor of wires when in fact you only have wires on one side. The mirror fools you too: you think you will look at yourself, but due to the 45ยบ angle you see no reflection which confuses the mind.
I was luck to find such a beautiful church to reflect in the edgeless mirror.
